This is a sponsored review from BlogHer and Stouffer's.
When there's a rainstorm in Los Angeles the city can basically shut down – a 20 minute drive can take over an hour.
So when I heard on the news last Friday that a late winter storm was coming our way and saw the weather looking like this in afternoon, I told my husband that instead of doing Friday night date a restaurant like planned, we should a fun date night at home and make an ordinary night a little more fun!
(For those of not from LA, this is ominous weather in our city).
I decided this would be a great night to try a new Stouffer’s Saute for Two. It’s a great gourmet meal for a couple – perfect for after a long week where you don’t have the energy to cook but still want a delicious meal.
The whole entree comes in a one bag. So simple!
To set the mood for our romantic date night at home, I set the table with our crystal wine glasses and silver chargers.
(You know, the stuff you get for wedding, but don’t use too much)
Then I decanted a bottle of our favorite cabernet sauvignon.
Then I put a Steak Gorgonzola Stouffer's Sauté on the stove. It cooked in less than 15 minutes and was so easy to make without over or under cooking it. Even a culinary novice like me couldn’t screw this up. Seriously.
It was perfectly portioned for two people.
We loved every bite! The steak, pasta, and sun-dried tomato were a perfect combo. And the creamy cheese sauce was delicious. (Warning: this was not a low calorie dinner, but it was worth it!)
We lingered at the dining room table, taking and listing to the rain fall outside, and being cozy – making an ordinary night at home extraordinary. I can’t wait to do it again!
So tell me, how do you make an ordinary night with your significant other extraordinary?

Put the kids to bed early, and have a quiet, candle lit dinner.

A night on the couch with nothing to do makes an extraordinary night for us!
I hope she sees this! Let's turn off anything that takes electricity and make our own sparks. That's all.
Having two young children, we try to spend time together after they go to bed. It can be anything from watching a movie together to just snuggling and talking. Any moment together is special!

A little bit of extra attention can make an evening special: music on the stereo, using good china and just paying attention to each other.
Thanks for the contest.
To make an ordinary night extraordinary, we first must send the little ones to the grandparents. Then, splurge a bit on a nice bottle of win. Have a dinner and then watch a great movie.

In warm weather, we have dinner alone, out on the deck with chilled wine or cocktails. Candles are the rule, but usually they have to be citronella to keep away bugs!

We feed the kids and put them in bed a bit early and then have a special "grown-up" meal with just the two of us.

We make a regular night extraordinary by sitting on the deck with a glass of wine and watching the sunset.

We make it special by not allowing any electronic devices at the table. No blackberrys, iphones, tv or laptop allowed at the dinner table. That way, we can actually have a conversation without distractions.

It may sound cheesy and cliche, but there is a lot to be said for a few lit candles and some soft jazz playing in the background!

To make a regular night special, we will spontaneously decide to have dinner at a sit-down restaurant. It is special, and exciting.
We add a glass of wine to the mix. ;-)

Just spending alone without the kids
I love to turn an ordinary night in extraordinary by surprising my partner. I will bring home her favorite Indian Restaurant's food and maybe some flowers or a special dessert she likes. After that, the whole evening just glows!

I try to make it extraordinary by making healthy dinners, turning off the TV and eating at the table so we can reconnect each night.
we eat dinner out doors with the tiki lamps and the fireplace making the mood lighting. Besides everything taste better outdoors

To make our ordinary night extraordinary we order pizza, get a movie and play games. It is a lot of fun!
I have to be honest. I don't. We are never without our girls. Because of our schedules we all go to bed at the same time. We don't have a babysitter so there is no alone time. lol Thank you!!

We dress up nicer than our usual sweats and get a movie we want to see and cuddle up!
I'll bring home something good from a restaurant, and serve it with a nice bottle of win, and light candles!

A really special evening would be treating it like a holiday meal with extra special dishes we ordinarily only have a couple of times during the year. Adding linens, crystal and our best china takes it a step further.
I cook up a fine meal for us to bond over.

aw, I love listening to rain over dinner and in bed, and I agree rain and LA absolutely do NOT mix!
To make a night extra special we turn off our phones and everything that'll distract us light a candle and just talk. Sounds simple but it rarely happens.. oh oh we also add dessert with ICE CREAM! because 'a la mode' anything is fancy pancy. ;)

As the ex is exed, my great nights are in the company of my granddaughter. They usually comprise a meal she has requested, and popcorn, movies, and some giggling for the heck of it.

Lock yourself in your bedroom and throw a blanket on the floor! Then lay out everything in a picnic fashion with some stouffers lasagna....make sure to where something sexy!

My husband and I almost always eat dinner together, so it makes even ordinary food extraordinary, because I'm sharing it with him.
We turn an ordinary night into an exraordinary one by doing something together that we love (be it Jeopardy!, talking, dancing in the library, you name it). It's really the little things that make it special for us.

We make it special by trying new things--a new cheese, wine, olive, snack etc. I also like to get a special treat from our favorite bakery for dessert.
kakihararocks@gmail.com
Our favorite thing to do is to make some guilty pleasure dessert - like fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies - together and then enjoy an evening of movies from On Demand or Netflix and a glass of wine or two. Simple pleasures can be pretty extraordinary, but I'll sometimes up the ante by sneaking in little gifts for an added surprise. Thanks!
